2012, PRIVATE SESSIONS shows Julie Westlake and Hydrogyn returning to their melodic roots in what the band is calling their strongest release to date. Combining the brilliance of their freshman release BOMBSHELL and the heaviness of the follow-up to that in DEADLY PASSIONS the band has put together a stunning release in PRIVATE SESSIONS. It's straight forward melodic hard rock, sometimes on the edgier metal side. Sometimes, however, it seems the songs take time to develop, or a least get under your skin, like ,,Forbidden Kind", ,,Scream" or ,,Heated Nights". Then a song like ,,I Don't Know How" or ,,Alone" have these subtle moments that dull the hard rock edge. Eventually, with several spins it all works well. It's not that Hydrogyn is doing something new or novel, but there is something unpredictable about PRIVATE SESSIONS.
