Description

How bewitching: Barely twelve full moons after their third opus "Dance With The Devil" BURNING WITCHES return steeled and superior with "The Witch Of The North", their most fiery and thundering work so far. An album with the makings of a modern metal classic! It's clear: Whoever turns the corner after only one year with such a witch's hammer must be in league with magic. With black magic.

Few bands established themselves faster in the recent past than BURNING WITCHES, few write with somnambulistic certainty these timeless, great songs that carry Judas Priest under their hearts without immediately becoming nostalgic and yet increasingly reveal their own signature. "We're not into too much experimentation," confesses guitarist and main composer Romana Kalkuhl. "We burn for the classic metal of Maiden, Priest and Slayer. For me, there's just nothing better than that music, so Burning Witches will always stay true to themselves."

Now the Witches are striking their grimoire on a particularly gripping page: An album forged in the fires of a pandemic and created with patience, finesse and pitch-black heart and soul at a time when even the Swiss-Dutch coven had to retreat into the isolation and silence of the dark woods. There they brooded over new spells, new ways to weave their effective magic into the world. For Freya, for the Druids, for the witches as past, present and future.

Recorded in several stages at the end of 2020 at Swiss metal legend V.O. Pulver and produced by thrash titan Schmier (Destruction), the band gets more out of their explosive heavy metal than ever in their strongest incarnation to date. With "Circle Of Five", "We Stand As One" or the title track there are more than enough furious, blistering anthems; but for BURNING WITCHES - call it old-fashioned - still the whole album counts, from the intro to the final cover song.

Speaking of cover song: After "Holy Diver" and "Battle Hymn" this time it's the turn of "Hall Of The Mountain King" by the mighty Savatage - including guest solos by Chris Caffery - what a choice, what an interpretation!

"The Witch Of The North" sounds unleashed and from one cast. Five full-blooded musicians have searched for each other and finally found each other.

This circle can neither be stopped by prejudices nor pyres or invective. The era of the witches has come. And whoever does not join this black magic alliance now will regret it forever.
