Fractal Universe's second album is a real chunk, both musically and intellectually, confirming the reputation of the French Prog Death Quartet. "'Rhizomes of Insanity' is a concept album about a thought experiment in madness," guitarist and singer Vince Wilquin explains. "We question the causes and try to define the boundary between madness and reason. It boils down to determining the meaning of madness in contemporary society and concludes that it has become a vital, inevitable and ultimately necessary part of every human being we want to oppress at all costs." From beginning to end, the album proves to be a demanding, complex and yet easily accessible work full of melodies, ingenuity and rousing riffs - ten tracks in all, all of which hit the mark.
