Description

British black metal pioneers WINTERFYLLETH release their ninth album: The Unyielding Season, out on March 27, 2026, via Napalm Records, weaves commentary on world events into elegant poetry. Where its predecessor, The Imperious Horizon (2024), described a lurking threat in the distance, this danger has now become real on The Unyielding Season. Previously calculating and cold, WINTERFYLLETH now ignite a wildfire. Their first album under their new label is both a reflection and a rebellion in the face of countless conflicts that tear individuals apart and divide humanity--a revolt against everything untenable, unsettling, and unyielding.

"Heroes Of A Hundred Fields" stands as the first act of revolt in the ten-song manifesto, speaking of the courage to unite against oppression and fight for freedom. With "Echoes In The After," WINTERFYLLETH deliver an impressive epic: based on a poem from Sir Philip Sidney's 16th-century "The Countess Of Pembroke's Arcadia," the song is a direct response to the illegal felling of the Sycamore Gap Tree on Hadrian's Wall in northeastern Britain. Enveloped in musical grandeur, the band calls for rebellion against evil. The following track, "A Hollow Existence," opens with galloping drums and ultimately explodes into an equally aggressive and atmospheric black metal inferno. The band's characteristic sound carries through "Perdition's Flame" into the album's title track, swelling into a powerful observation of current events and becoming a voice for all those silenced by the weight of the world. Following this statement, WINTERFYLLETH temper their fury and make way for the atmospheric "Unspoken Elegy," an acoustic guitar-driven instrumental enriched by cello melodies that are both hopeful and menacing--a hauntingly beautiful depiction of the contrasts in The Unyielding Season. "In Ashen Wake" picks up the dangerous undertone and slowly unfolds into another highly melodic black metal saga. "Toward Elysium" builds upon this with an old-school-oriented riff. After another instrumental composition, the enchanting "Where Dreams Once Grew," WINTERFYLLETH close the album with a cover of Paradise Lost's "Enchantment," which originally appeared on their classic album *Draconian Times* in 1995.

In an environment consumed by pressure and fear, which grows more difficult by the day, WINTERFYLLETH offer both respite and resistance. The world is on fire and The Unyielding Season is a warning.
