Description
On September 18, 2026, VILLAGERS OF IOANNINA CITY will release their new studio album, *Venceremos*, via Napalm Records--a powerful, intense masterpiece that marks a consistent evolution of the Greek band's sound. Blending heavy rock and progressive metal with distinctive folk and Hellenic influences, the band presents its most ambitious and conceptually rich album to date.
*Venceremos* is set in a dystopian world defined by illusion, control, and fear. At its core is the journey of those who rise up against this order, breaking free from gods and modern rulers to redefine freedom and purpose--navigating struggles, hope, doubt, and deep reflection in their quest for liberty.
Rather than following trends, VILLAGERS OF IOANNINA CITY hone their sound. The album feels heavy, direct, and intense, driven by an immediate, raw energy. It operates firmly within the realm of heavy rock and metal--frequently venturing into heavier territory--while unfolding with a thoroughly progressive sensibility in which every composition evolves organically.
Ritualistic rhythms, expansive arrangements, and traditional instruments like the bagpipe and zourna are not merely sonic textures but essential components of the musical language. Folk and Hellenic influences merge with powerful riffs and dynamic structures to create a sound that is unmistakable and clearly distinct from conventional genre boundaries.
Tracks like the lead single "Ghosts in the Sky" open up this world with driving intensity, combining punchy grooves with layered soundscapes and cinematic dynamics. The epic title track, "Venceremos," forms the album's centerpiece, building through striking arcs of tension to a powerful climax. With "Requiem," the band presents the final chapter: a track spanning over seven minutes in which progressive structures and folk influences converge, culminating in a liberating heavy rock anthem.
Throughout the album, the band moves effortlessly between quiet, almost meditative passages and explosive outbursts, striking a perfect balance between restraint and raw power. The folk elements remain an integral part of the sound, significantly shaping the emotional depth of the songs.
*Venceremos* was produced and recorded by Alex Karametis at Magnanimous X Studio in Greece, while mixing and mastering were handled by Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios. The result is an album that conveys clarity, power, and atmosphere in equal measure. With *Venceremos*, Villagers of Ioannina City deliver a musical journey through darkness, rebellion, and the unshakeable power of resistance. As one of the most exciting and distinctive bands in the post-stoner and heavy prog rock genres, they once again underscore their exceptional standing within the scene.
