Description

Very early in their career, The Doors played at a small, nondescript club owned by Jefferson Airplane's Marty Balin called The Matrix. The rule back then was that bands from L.A. had to play The Matrix when they came to San Francisco - as a "tax" and homage to the bands that built the local scene. The Doors committed gladly and co-owner Peter Abram recorded the band's two performances on March 7 and 10, 1967. The set soon includes popular covers from The Doors like "Gloria" and blues favorites like "Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)" that would define their influence and sound, while building on originals like "Break on Through (To The Other Side )" worked. The full sets of both concerts have been released before, but upon release it turned out that the recordings were from third generation tapes. In the following years, The Doors have the recordings of the first generation, and this is the first time that the sets from these evenings are complete to be published. This is sure to generate debate as highlights of the shows have been released as RSD packs over the years and fans have been eager to have the full shows from the first generation recordings in their collections. The 3-CD box set includes new liner notes by Joel Selvin.
