2016, Scanner's debut HYPERTRACE (1988) is a true cult classic nowadays. The studio album is a concept album based on a science fiction story. The band was originally formed under the name Lions Breed (an album called DAMN THE NIGHT was released in 1985). In 1986, the band's name was changed to Scanner, after the band replaced its vocalist and drummer, and adapted an sci-fi alter ego on stage. Scannerwas featured on Noise Record's DOOMSDAY NEWS compilation with the song ,,Galactos" in 1987. The band's debut album HYPERTRACE was produced by Eloy vocalist Fran Bornemann und hit the shelves in 1988. Michael Knoblich, the band's lead singer, had one of the most impressive voices in the power metal genre back then! The second album, TERMINAL EARTH was released in 1989 and featured S.L. Coe (ex-Angel Dust) on vocals. Coe left the band a few years later, and guitarist and band leader Axel A. J. Julius reformed the line-up.
