The time has come for a new Scanner album after almost a decade. As the previous discography almost necessarily demands, "The Cosmic Race" has become a concept album: survival on earth has become increasingly difficult, natural disasters are increasing and military conflicts have reached their climax. Life is concentrated in a few large cities, and the confinement and heat in them has become unbearable. The scanner (a mix of humans and androids) collects some of the humans to take them to a habitable planet in another galaxy. The long journey ends successfully. But even in the new world, people have to defend themselves against aliens and invaders from other civilized planets and have to start all over again. They want to use their second chance and do better than they did on Earth. But since there are also doubters and apostates among them who oppose the new community, the scanner has developed a system that can identify these apostates in their nightly dream phases. You find yourself in a Twilight Zone. They end up tied to huge totem poles in a trance where dreams and reality fight against each other. The lyrics are about a spirit of optimism, but also about doubts and fears of the unknown. In keeping with the times, the music is darker, harder and more melancholic than you might be used to from Scanner. There are fast and mid-tempo songs, but always with a high level of recognition. A must have for fans of the band and friends of sophisticated metal.
