Produced by Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith at Ocean Way Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, 'The Blues Album' features Joanne's personal cover versions of eleven rare blues classics. In doing so, she pays tribute to artists and bands that are not part of the obvious selection, such as Little Village, Little Milton, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, James Ray, while also covering seminal blues icons such as Albert King, Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac and Magic Sam. Some songs are B-sides from singles. Was it a conscious decision by Joanne to cover songs that are not well-known blues standards? 'We try not to follow the well-trodden paths of the blues,' Bonamassa explains. 'Each song has to stand on its own while paying tribute to the original masters.'
