2015, Ghost are what you would expect if Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple had a baby with overtly satanic lyrics. There's no way that a band should be able to be this melodic, concise and immediate. Occult rock shouldn't really be this easy to listen to. Yet it is. These Swedes have really got their stuff nailed down to the max. Ghost, of course, made a huge splash with their 2011 debut OPUS EPONYMOUS, and since its release their buzz has only increased, The formula for OPUS EPONYMOUS was simple - retro sounding heavy metal that sounded more or less like King Diamond writing lyrics for a Blue Oyster Cult album. The easiest thing for Ghost to do here is serve up another ten catchy Satanic rockers to satisfy their fans. Instead, the band reached even further back into ´70s prog and even ´60s rock for an album that is both catchy and complex, and for all its Satanic trappings is a layered, progressive and perhaps even artistically brilliant work.
