The dance at the abyss and the soundtrack to it: After five albums the Dutch chart toppers Delain have broken all chains and present with Apocalypse & Chill a multi-layered, dystopian masterpiece. A feeling of an uncertain future and the ever-growing human indifference as a counterpole runs as a thematic thread through the entire album, which courageously defies genre boundaries. The suitably dark backbone is provided by the stormy riffing, which as a melodic counterpart is orchestral in character, gripping synth carpets and unmistakable Sturmund-Drang vocals.
