In 1996, singer-songwriter David Crosby (founding member of The Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young ), guitarist Jeff Pevar and Crosby's son and keyboardist James Raymond joined forces to form the jazz-rock band CPR. The album of the same name is their debut album and was written after Crosby and Raymond wrote the song Morrison, which they performed live for the first time in January 1997. The song deals with Crosby's ambivalent feelings towards the portrayal of Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's film The Doors (1991). After the success of their first tour together in 1997, the band began production on their debut album, CPR, which was released in March 1998.
The album is now being re-released on CD with a brand new essay written by award-winning journalist Steve Silberman based on his interviews with the three band members.
