Master producer and shred icon Eric Rutan has a very special trump card for the seventh Hate Eternal destruction opus "Upon desolate sands": Hannes Grossmann, the most experienced German death metal drummer (ex-Necrophagist, ex-Obscura).
Eric Rutan, ex-Morbid Angel auxiliary functionary, could be regarded as one of the gods of Death Metal. Recruiting some incredibly experienced drummers and taking over the Teutonic carnage clockwork Hannes Grossmann for the seventh Hate Eternal album after his live activity of the last years was a stroke of genius. "The violent fury" and "What lies beyond", the opening moves, soak up all the light. The seemingly unstoppable destructive frenzy of "Vengeance striketh" leads abruptly into a glistening bright, stirring melody without rhythm artillery all around. "Until the monumental finale, "Nothingness of being" chooses a cleverly broken bulldozer groove. Does Rutan seek the desert duel with Nile here and in the title song? He doesn't have to worry about the end of the battle. Further highlights are the progaged "All hope destroyed", the maelstrom "Dark age of ruin" and the melancholic farewell instrumental "For whom we have lost".
