After bright summer days, autumn marks a turning point. The light fades visibly. The darkness takes over. Man and nature go through a process of change. This happens without you noticing it first. They must pay attention to the nuances and look closely. Not everything is always as it seems at first glance. Exactly the same applies to the music of DéCEMBRE NOIR. The songs on "Autumn Kings" are all melodic, but also melancholic. The eight tracks of the third album of the Thuringian band convey deep emotionality and a continuous basic hardness. As far as the impressions are concerned, the songs are much darker and more depressing than it may seem at the beginning. Nevertheless, there is always a good amount of familiarity to be felt.
DéCEMBRE NOIR have already shared their mix of melancholic-melodic Death/ Doomm Metal on two albums for F.D.A. Rekotz, "A Discouraged Believer" and "Forsaken Earth", with the world and have acquired a loyal fanbase. With "Autumn Kings" the band further develops their unmistakable sound. The quartet from Erfurt creates subtly growing tension arcs and atmospheric shifts. Feelings of powerlessness or sudden horror are each integrated into a pleasant sounding context. Nevertheless the songs are not lacking in hardness or complexity. But the play of DéCEMBRE NOIR should not be fathomed too much. Listeners should simply let it have an effect on them - without exaggerated expectations. If they do, the positive surprise is all the greater.
