Description
To Follow Polaris" is a new progressive rock album from The Tangent that has it all. That's not necessarily a surprise...that's what the band is known for. But at the same time it's something different. In a year, in With the members of The Tangent performing around the world with Steve Hackett, Soft Machine, Karnataka, David Cross, It Bites, Cyan and others, it became clear that there would be no time to commit to more than one gig April 2023. So the band agreed that bandleader and main songwriter Andy Tillison would collect the material and record an album of The Tangent all by himself. It would still be called The Tangent. For One. Produced between January and November 2023 Album features Andy in his usual style with his multiple keyboard system, but adds to the mix his first ever released performance on bass guitar and his second on stick-driven (electronic) drums, as well as electric and acoustic guitars and electronic horns, and this is a full band recording in every sense of the word. Conceptually, Andy claims that the album is, ahem, "very optimistic," but regular listeners of his work will correctly guess that this optimism is not unfounded or overly simplistic, and that Andy is highly critical of obstacles that stand in the way of that optimism . And the album looks as much into the darkness as it does the light. Overall, his message is that regardless of progress and the great socio-political difficulties that come with the apparent end of "truth" as a yardstick, there are certain things that are slightly less ephemeral and can be followed, and he uses that North Star, Polaris, as a metaphor for hope and stability. "To Follow Polaris" will be available as a Deluxe Collector's Edition Limited CD Mediabook with a bonus track and an extensive 24-page booklet.
