Kings of Mercia's 2022 self-titled debut was described as "truly a hybrid: it's heavy, but not metal. It has hints of melodic AOR hard rock, but with a certain edge." 2024 will see the release of Battle Scars, the second album, with "Don't Ask" and the epic "Aftermath" as the first singles. Battle Scars was written and recorded throughout 2023, with the core team of guitarist Jim Matheos and singer Steve Overland able to further develop their obvious chemistry. "It's a different genre of music to what I'm usually involved with," says Overland, whose voice has been compared to other British greats such as Paul Rodgers and Glenn Hughes. Fans of Fates Warning, FM and Armored Saint were pleased to see the similarities on Kings of Mercia, the sweet spot in the middle of the Venn diagram.
