Description
Crying Steel was formed in 1982 in Bologna, Italy, from the remains of the hard rock band Wurdalak. The founding members were Alberto Simonini (guitar) and Angelo Franchini (bass). In 1983 Luke Bonzagni (vocals), Luca Ferri (drums) and Franco Grandchildren (guitar) joined the line-up.
After some demos Crying Steel released their debut EP "Crying Steel" in 1985. In the next two years followed numerous concerts in Italy, among others with Motörhead and Twisted Sister at the Heavy Metal Festival in Bologna (1986). After further demos and promos the Italians released their LP "On The Prowl" in 1987, the first Italian New Wave of Heavy Metal (NWOIHM) album ever, which was also available on CD.
During the long history of the band, the formation was shaken by many line-up changes. In 1994 and 2003 Crying Steel played some concerts with the classical line-up. Other changes until the group released the album "The Steel Is Back" (My Graveyard Records) in 2007. and toured again in different compositions. Time Stands Steel" was released in April 2013 with Stephen Palmonari as singer. But he left the band shortly afterwards. In 2014 Crying Steel represented Italy at the 25th anniversary of the Wacken Open Air, before the Italians played the Greek Metal Festival in 2015 and subsequently signed a record contract with No Remorse Records. Concerts with former Iron Maiden singer Blaze Bayley followed. In 2016 a box set was released, which includes a new release of "One The Prowl" and a 2014 in Wacken filmed DVD. In the following years Mirko Bacchilegaal joined the group as a live singer and only a short time later it was announced that Tony Mills (Shy, TNT), one of the finest voices on the international rock scene, will record the next studio album.
Cryin g Steel was always a live band - the Italians played among others with Twisted Sister, Motörhead, Grim Reaper, Demon, Diamond Head, Girlschool, Angel Witch, Gotthard, Praying Mantis, Vanadium, Raven, Satan, Killer, Jag Panzer, Behemoth, Razor, Riot, Blaze Bayley, Decapitated, Van Canto, Hammerfall, Hatebreed, Black Star Riders, Carcass, Children Of Bodom, Hellyeah, King Diamond, Arch Enemy, Amon Amarth, Creator, Accept, Megadeth, Saxon, Skid Row, Slayer, Sodom, Steel Panther, Wasp
