Description
Eye of Nix was founded in 2012 with the intention of creating a threatening, beautiful and brutal music at the same time. The founding members, singer and guitarist Joy Von Spain, guitarist Nicholas Martinez and noise/sound collage artist Masaaki Masao, have been joined in 2017 by bassist Zach Wise and drummer Luke LaPlante.
Their new LP "Black Somnia" - recorded with the well-known producer Billy Anderson (Bell Witch, Pallbearer) at The Hallowed Halls in Portland, Oregon, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Gatecreeper, Necrot) - revolves around themes such as fear, anxiety and control and looks at them through a musical lens of black psychedelic and doom. Singer Joy Von Spain comments: "The album explores forces such as fear and control and reacts to these insidious, invisible forces, to these schemes that remain when we awaken from enigmatic and fearsome dreams. Billy Anderson worked with us on ideas on how best to preserve the components of our sound and the layers of atmosphere." The visual side of "Black Somnia" was created in collaboration with the occult photographer and artist Carlos Melgoza (Anima Nocturna) and an international group of Butoh dancers (Alan Sutherland, Vanessa Skantze, Marina Sossi) with Susan DuMett (Vox Vespertinus).
The first edition of "Black Somnia" appeared in a strictly limited vinyl edition of 250 pieces in the USA. Due to the high demand "Black Somnia" is now officially re-released by Prophecy worldwide - for the first time on CD as well as a new version of the LP. The album's majestic elements accentuate each other, creating a memorable, hypnotic sound experience, which captivates the listener with all its senses. Friends of Pharmakon, Satyricon and the early Soundgarden will discover with "Black Somnia" a unique and fascinating musical masterpiece.
