As the lead singer of the American cult band HEART, ANN WILSON has earned a reputation as one of the most powerful and striking voices in all of rock music. And even as a solo artist, the 68-year-old power woman is still one of the greats of her genre. With "I Am The Highway" the first outtake of their album "Immortal" on September 14th was recently released on BMG. The album contains ten stylistically completely different songs on which Ann bows to her recently deceased musician friends to keep their influential legacy alive.
With "Immortal" Ann Wilson enters various stylistic, highlight dotted territories. The spectrum ranges from Leonard Cohen ("A Thousand Kisses Deep"), Amy Winehouse ("Back To Black"), David Bowie ("I`m Afraid Of Americans") and Lesley Gore ("You Don`t Owe Me") to Tom Petty ("Luna"). According to Ann, the selection criteria for the pieces could not have been simpler: "The most important thing was that I loved them. It had to be songs I plausibly put myself in as a singer could. Although the lyrics play an important role, I pay the most attention to the harmonious interplay of text and melody - only then something magical is created.
