2017, By this time in Samson's dwindling career, their legendary drummer Thunderstick had departed and with Mel Gaynor as his replacement, they played Reading on August ´81. One reviewer hailed them as the best act of the day and it's not surprising. Paul Samson's Gibson cuts through the air like a knife into butter, and some of his licks are reminiscent of Deep Purple-era Ritchie Blackmore. Bruce Dickinson's voice is as energetic as it ever was and he screams as loudly as he ever did with Maiden. This was his last concert with Samson and it's because of this impressive performance that Steve Harris and Rod Smallwood recruited him for Iron Maiden and the rest, as they say, is history. But on this album, there isn't a track you can't bang your head too.
