8 years after the last album the "generous dreamer" (Prodigal Dreamer) David Surkamp lets us participate again in his poetic songs and musical stories. With a band that releases about 1 album per decade, a new album is of course always a special event. With "Prodigal Dreamer" a very special dream comes true for David this time. On the album you will find a carefully compiled collection of songs that have grown over the years, each with its own personal history and deliberately chosen. New compositions of the past eight years are combined with some pearls of the last decades that have only just been completed to form a harmonious whole. And so the graphic concept closes the circle to "Pampered Menial", with which it all began in 1975 ...
Prodigal Dreamer" was recorded using room microphones. The whole band plays live in a room, without clicktracks and similar aids. So the band is captured "in real". This recording technique is an art in itself, which today is only mastered by a few sound engineers. With Paul Hennerich a specialist in this field could be won, who e.g. supervises recordings & radio broadcasts of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra or also accompanies well-known jazz projects. This way of working largely dispenses with post-editing. This results in an unsurpassed authenticity, warmth, dynamics and "authenticity", which interpret the emotional songs on "Prodigal Dreamer" also soundtechnically appropriate ... and leave the listener with the feeling of being right in the middle of it.
