Description
No less than 30 long years the fans had to wait for the return of the Hard n' Heavy band MASS around the Regensburg cult rocker Günther V. Radny.
Founded in 1973, the international band (Germany, Switzerland, USA) played up to 180 concerts a year throughout Europe, sold over 200,000 albums and was part of radio playlists all over the continent. Their 1979 album "Slaughter House" cracked the top 5 of the Greek album charts, and a few years later the quartet was ranked 4th in a survey of a well-known hard rock magazine as "best German metal band" behind the Scorpions, Accept and Warlock. However, the individual band members paid a high price for their Rock n' Roll lifestyle, which cost MASS their big breakthrough and led to their separation at the end of 1987.
Decades were to pass before the first thoughts of a reformation of the band sprouted up again in 2010, after the hard rock label SPV re-released four of the eight successful MASS albums as a remastered Rare Classic series. When in 2016 the metal expert Tom "Warrior" Fischer (Celtic Frost/Tryptikon) listed MASS' "Angel Power"-LP from 1980 as one of the most important metal releases of the early 1980s in the special of a big German metal magazine, the calls for a return of the band became louder and louder and Radny kept the time.
For health reasons, a return of the classic line-up is no longer possible, which is why bassist Günther V. Radny as the only remaining founding member once again became the obstetrician of MASS and in January 2017 introduced Matthias "Wauxl" Pfaller on vocals, Hannes Heid on guitars and Andi Gmeinwieser on drums to the press. Clemens Matejka completes the new line-up at the Keys. Radny fulfilled with his musician colleague Matejka a long-awaited wish for his vision of the band's sound. This is not only a new edition, but also another chapter on the once most successful South German metal band -MASS.
40 years after their foundation, one thing remains unchanged, and as on the first day, their first commandment and highest maxim applies: "MASS plays only for the audience -Hardrock total!" The new album "Still Chained" was produced by Robert Hoffmann & MASS in the single Coil Studios/ Regensburg and at Slash Zero Records/ Abensberg between March and October 2018. The cover artwork is by Gisella Sapiña Febrero.
