Description

About 1998 guitarist/producer Martin Kronlund had collected some song ideas with a basis in the 70s and 80s hardrock sound. Thin Lizzy were Martin's main influences, but also Deep Purple and Rainbow. With a few friends who liked similar music, he wrote some songs that would form the basis of Dogface. Then guitarist Anders contacted Skoog, with whom he had played in several bands before Gypsy Rose. Anders owned a Hammond C3 - the perfect choice for the sound of Dogface. Patrik Engelbrektsson and Stefan Egeman joined the group as drummers and bassists. Recording for the debut album began in 1998, but despite trying out a few singers, something was still missing. Martin contacted Mats Levén, with whom he had already worked on several projects. Mats came into the studio and recorded "You're taking me down" as his first track. It sounded great and his way of singing hard rock and his Glenn Hughes influences were perfect.

Thanks to Magnus Söderqvist, the Swedish band signed a record deal with the German label MTM Music. In 2000 they released "Dogface Unleashed", a CD that was rated by many critics as the best "European hard rock album" of the year. Later in the same year the recordings for the second album "In Control" began. Kronlund had just opened a large new studio and also invested in a classic SSL 4000E mixer. Mats Levén's new short hairstyle also contributed to the new, fresh start for the second Dogface album. The release of the second album was followed by a longer break until the album "Back On The Streets" was released in 2013. Kronlund and Levén were the only remaining original members. A remixed and remastered version of "Dogface Unleashed" was released by Melodic Rock Records in 2018 under the name "Dogface Releashed". After that the band broke up. Dogface comment this as follows: "We are very proud of what we have achieved and would like to thank the fans for the great years. The new release "From the end to the beginning" is a Best Of with the material that best represents our sound. We hope you think the same!
