You can certainly blame Hatebreed for a lot of things, but in no way can you blame them for being bent for success. As one of the first bands to mix thrash metal with hardcore at that time, they were not only genre pioneers but also pioneers for many young bands. "Weight Of The False Self" picks up exactly where its 2016 predecessor "The Concrete Confessional" left off. The opener "Instinctive (Slaughterlust)" is a prime example for the feeling of the rest of the album. "Here kindness ends, weakness dies" are the first words on the album and they also define the thematic framework, whereby frontman Jamey Jasta relentlessly puts his finger in the wound and in spite of all the harshness, e.g. in "A Stroke Of Red", also very emotional topics such as self-injury are addressed: Motörhead, Slayer and the early Metallica. You are warned not to put the album in your living room before you put it in, because the songs are straight hardcore with headbanging guarantee and moshpit danger.
