Description

In 2017, "Diamonds And Rust" was released, an impressive exhibition of the German Gothic Rocker The Cascades in the form of a double album with a Best Of compilation as well as unreleased titles. There was also a brand new song ("Wenn der Regen kommt") on it, which first collaboration of the musicians in the original line-up since more than ten years.

For their 30th anniversary the band started this year with new singles like "Behind The Curtain" and "Station No. E", which could offer a foretaste of the upcoming album. "Phoenix" couldn't be a better album title, because what the band presents on the thirteen songs is balancing itself with all its strength as the proverbial resurrection of the Cascades as well as the modern Gothic- and Gothic- style. Rocks from the speakers.

Familiar yet fresh, "Phoenix" sounds. Hymnic choruses, worn by singer Markus Wilds charismatic voice, a virtuoso and driving guitar playing, extremely targeted keyboards and a transparent and crisp production combine to a complete work on the album, which fans of the genre should hardly be tired of.

It's hard to take out individual titles. Each title has too clear an individual handwriting for that, which shows that we're dealing with a band that puts all its experience and rediscovered carelessness into every bar and lyric line and knows exactly how to write songs that grab the soul and the balls. In addition, the cover version of "Diane" (Hüsker Dü / Therapy?), on which Canadian singer Esther K. Widmann sings the second voice, can be inserted into the rest of the songs in a new musical guise like butter.

"Phoenix" is a power demonstration of traditional as well as modern gothic rock, a statement for handmade music from belly and soul, which couldn't have manifested itself better than on the thirteen songs of this work.
